Political career

  • Parliamentary whip, spokesperson on economic and media policy of the FDP parliamentary group in the Saxon State Parliament
  • Member of the parliamentary committee for economics, work and traffic

How I came to politics? Quite easy, the fall of wall and the end of GDR was the reason. After participating in the Monday Demonstrations in the fall of 1989 a new political youth organisation got my attention, the Jungliberale Aktion Sachsen - JuliA (Young Free Democrats of Saxony). For many years I engaged in this organisation, on city level and later on the State Board. Between 1997 and 2000 I served as chairman of the youth organisation in Saxony.

In 1994 Saxonies FDP experienced a big disaster after the election for the State Parliament. For many members it was a reason to leave the party whereas I joined the FDP. After the election defeat of 1999 Saxonies FDP experienced the biggest change in the parties young history. A completely new state executive board was elected, I was there too, as vice chairman of the state party. In the following year we revived the FDP in each respect: personnel, structural and programmatic. The reward was the return to the Saxon State Parliament in 2004 after ten years without parliamentary representation. In the parliamentary group comprising seven members I was elected as parliamentary whip and took care of educational policy in Saxony. Since spring 2005 I have been Secretary-General of FDP Saxony.
